Lorella Springs – Butterfly Springs 28th May

After a swim the hot spring at camp we left camp and headed for the main road which took about 1hr as the road was a bit rough.

We found the South lost city and took the 2k walk into there and it was very interesting (should had taken the helicopter flight over this lost city next time).

Had some lunch before heading out and onto Butterfly Springs, we arrived at Butterfly Springs around 2:30pm headed for the spring which had only a little water in it (it would be better after a lot of rain).

Just sat around as it was a very hot day again, then we cooked dinner on the fire a lovely casserole which would have fed all the people here.

Lorella Springs 27th May

Today we are going to another drive around the property and decided to go to Nanny’s retreat around 1 1/2hr drive from camp.

When we arrived there we then had a 1/2hr walk from the car and by the time we made it to the water it was very hot and we needed to cool down.

We spent some time in the water before having our lunch and then back in the water to cool down again.

By the time we took the long drive back to camp and we did not get back until around 4pm we needed to go in the hot spring.

Up to the bar to watch the State of Origin and we were out-numbered as there was a lot of Queensland supporters there.

Cape Crawford – Lorella Springs 26th May

Today we are back on dirt road and it is a very rough so it will take us awhile to go the 150ks as we will be going quite slow.

On our way there is not much to see a few small water crossings and a lot of dips which were sharp and rough in the bottom.

We arrived in Lorella Springs around 1pm and we were greeted by the pilot and he informed us what was around the station to see and do. Now it is time to find a camp site set up as it was another very hot day.

We had a drive in the afternoon along the chicken track to some rock formation then to a small pond and as they have not had rain for 3 years everything is starting to dry up.

Borroloola – Cape Crawford 25th May

We did some shopping this morning one big supermarket and a small one so we got some supplies in both.

About 11am we left Borroloola and we are now on tar road not far out of town we turned off to Caranbarini Conservation Reserve and had a 2k walk through the rock formations.

When we left there we are on our way to Cape Crawford (Heartbreak Hotel) and we arrived there about 2pm.

We found a camp site then decided to have a helicopter flight over lost city which was really good. After Pam & Jack had there go in the helicopter we had a swim in a very cold pool at the park.

Happy hr was around 6pm which we went to and had a chat to some other travellers which was very interesting.

Calvert River – Borroloola 24th May

This morning was really cold so we were a bit slow getting away and we thought we would have a short day as we had read that Robinson River 60ks away had a nice camp spot, when we arrived there it had all been burnt out and it was a long way from the water so we moved on.

We checked out Snake Lagoon was not very appealing so on the Borroloola, the road was really bad so it made for a slow trip into town.

We did managed to arrive in Borroloola around 1pm had some lunch while we did some washing then checked out the only shop open.

That night we went to the motel for dinner which was good (Roast) all you could eat great food.

King Fisher Camp – Calvert river 23rd May

This morning is a cool morning and we have not had one of these for awhile, headed out of camp around 9am as we had 40ks of slow road before turning onto the Savannah Way.

We are now on the Savannah way and there seems to be a lot of tar road before we hit the dirt again and lots of road works being done to this section of the road.

Arrived at hells gate around 11am topped up our fuel talked to the owner who is selling for awhile then headed off again. Just out of Hells gate we came across Dill Doll Rock which was very interesting.

We had lunch just over the border into NT, we found Calvert River and crossed the water and found a really nice camp on the hill so we stayed there the night.  We took a walk down by the river in the afternoon could not swim as they say there are crocs in this river.

King Fisher Camp Friday 22nd May

We decided to stay another day here to do the Gorge drive and walk, so we went to the shed (office) to get the key to a locked gate. What a lovely drive through private property which took us about 1hr.

We had a 1k walk after we parked the cars and today was not as hot as it has been, we arrived at Henley Gorge which was very nice a few crocs small and large and a very large one on the bank (dead). Had a quick swim and lunch hopping to see the crocs climb out onto the bank no luck.

Back at camp I made some scone for afternoon tea and we sat around in the cool of the day very nice, after dinner we sat around a nice fire.

Adels Grove – King Fisher Camp Thursday 21st May

Well great day weather wise up here, it is time to move on from this lovely place out in the middle of now where.  We found phone reception just outside the park Pam made calls while uploaded my blog of the last 2 days.

Now on the road we turned off on the alternative Savannah way route which took us through Lawn Hill homestead and to Lawn hill creek which we made Pam walk in case there was a crocs.

We passed through some closed gates with some calves on the side of the track, we drove passed another homestead and after that the track got worse with some big patches of bull dust and it was very stony.

Wow we made King Fisher camp by about 1:30pm and we were the only people in the camp ground for a short time when another van pulled in and later in the day a lonely camper in a 4x4 arrived.

Adels Grove Wednesday 20th May

Pam, Paul & Jack went for a walk this morning and I stayed back had a cup of tea on the deck at the resort as it is another very hot day 36 deg today and we have decided to stay another night, we check out some very big fish in the river that runs through the park and went and had a swim at the pontoon before having our lunch.

This afternoon we went for a paddle up the Lawn Hill River to see what was at the end, not a lot but very nice on the water.

Well tonight looks like we could get a storm as it is very dark out to our west.

Adels Grove – Lawn Hill Tuesday 19th May

Wow what a day we drove the 10ks to Lawn Hill national park blew up the kayaks and launched them into the water for the paddle up the gorge.  What a great day we had it took about 30mins to paddle the first gorge and then we had to carry the kayaks up and over to the other gorge, we stopped and had morning tea here.  Now we were in the other part of the gorge and it was fantastic we did see a small croc nothing to worry about.

Once up the top of the gorge we had a play at a small falls really some water running very fast over some rocks but good fun we had our lunch here and played for quite some time. By the time we paddled back down the gorge we were really tired and ready to put the kayaks on the car and get back to camp for a swim.  We did have a very early night as this has been a very full day.

Gregory Downs – Adels Grove Monday 18th May

Today we are heading out to Lawn Hill so we got out of camp around 8:30am. Not much here at Gregory Downs only a pub and some public toilets.

The trip out to Adels Grove was great for about 44ks as that is where a mine is and they were doing extensive road works for the trucks.

We arrived at Adels Grove about 10:30am and asked the availability at Lawn Hill as you have to book on line and it is a bit hard when you don’t have any service to do so. The boys decided to stay here (Adel’s Grove) as they liked the look of the place so here is where we are.

It has been very hot today so down to the creek for a well deserved swim and cool off, stayed most of the afternoon down in the grove as it was nice and cool.  Took a sunset tour to Harrys Hill.
